Hi there! I'm Sammm✦✧! Currently, I'm only relatively active on Harry Potter Wiki, HOWEVER, if you see myself under User Groups with Rights (Bureaucrat, Admin, and Content Moderator) in Wikis you think need help, and see me relatively not active there, please still feel free to message me on said wikis and I'll see what I can do. There're 11 other Wikis out there that I used to be heavily invested in (3 of those I'll just outright admit I was only there to help do cleanups, and don't really have a strong passion for those subject matters;) just because I can no longer find time as I once did to maintain a presence, doesn't mean I've lost interest in those 8 Wikis. =]
A slightly dated message about my hiatus during roughly 2016-2017; doesn't mean I'm not still upset over the whole thing though. For people viewing this from Inkworld, Lockwood & Co., The Lunar Chronicles, and Ruby Red communities; know that my enthusiasm for those series has not died, so don't hesitate to drop a message if you want to discuss the books! :3 --Sammm✦✧(talk) 21:44, October 17, 2018 (UTC)
Due to circumstances surrounding a certain treatment towards a certain Wikia wiki I've been offered to take care of by the Staff, I've become more or less, well, LESS enthusiastic towards editing on Wikia since mid-2016.
I'm still very anal about editing, but I've come to realize that, heck, I'm not being paid to do a magnificent job on compiling info, and the obsession with editing has hindered my RL activities, which was why I've been mercilessly inactive.
That's NOT saying Ima forever disappear; for Inkworld, Lockwood & Co., The Lunar Chronicles, and Ruby Red, I honestly do hope to someday come back to them and raise their content quality. It's just that my energy has somewhat burnt out, and I'm taking my time to recover. It's very easy to leave comments like "this needs updating", instead of actually contributing to help out. It's even easier to just sit there, read the content, and take it for granted.
Fundamentally I get it, nobody is forcing anybody to do the work; it's too hard? Don't do it then! Which is exactly why I had stopped, when I'd been so stressed out about something that, in the end, isn't really going to impact me in my RL.
Please keep in mind that I'm NOT entirely walking out on the wikis I've been involved with; while my responding time may be severely delayed comparing to the ridiculous "24/7" I used to give, if something serious occurs, my Talk page/ Wall IS still there. If you want to talk in private about books, I'm on Goodreads.
Music by nico nico producer つこ. Highly recommended to at least listen to it once! ♥
For people viewing from communities that rendered the above video as a red link, feel free to blame it on Wikia/Fandom for retiring the <nicovideo></nicovideo> and <youtube></youtube> extensions, both previously able to display the video cross-wiki.
For people who are curious enough for wanting to listen to the song, they are respectively uploaded by the composer on Nico Nico Douga and YouTube.
Below is to compensate for most likely the majority of the people viewing this page, being unable to see the video above lol. A different song by a different producer. While Treow was not considerably prolific comparing to other producers, I was and still am extremely impressed with the first two CDs (HYSTERESIS and REVERSUS) he released under the collaboration name ELECTROCUTICA. My roommate had thought I was listening to some epic movie OST. Anyhow, this is just the off vocal. The style's not for everyone, so I won't be offended if you don't like it. xP
↓ Why I am on this particular Wiki ↓
I have a thing for adaptations of fairy tales and I sometimes check if there's new adaptations being made; initially, based on the blurbs and description of the series on Wikipedia, I was NOT interested in reading this series AT ALL. However, I came across this wiki via the WAM Score , and really appreciated the effort I saw here. The stuff here is far more intriguing than what I've assumed thus I decided to give it a go. I did NOT like book 1 all that much (or at all), but I believed there's potential and I continued. To me, book 2 and book 3 ARE SO VERY EPIC. =]
So why am I here? Well... After actually catching up the main series (for now), I realized as nice as this wiki is, a lot of info needed to be updated; if I'm certain with specific information, I'd help adding it to articles. I'm also aiming to convert in-universe articles to... well... in-universe writing style... something for some reason people just keep on forgetting about? Other than that, I usually don't go dramatically changing other people's edits (excluding adding more info), and if I undo edits, I always specify WHY I felt it needed to be undone; SO, if YOU have edits undid by me, keep in mind that it is never, EVER, personal; most of of the time it's due to the entire layout being royally messed up by the said edit.
Will start helping out as much as I can manage.
↓ Wikis I like to read information from but don't contribute to ↓
There's nothing bad about "formerly"; they're still awesome wikis! Just that I'm taking a break from the subjects they are about and it's unlikely for me to go back, but I do immensely enjoy looking up stuff there at one point!
I wanted to ask your opinion on something and that’s on making a Lunar Chronicles wiki in Arabic?
I know that there are going to be issues with this since there is unfortunately no official translated into Arabic Lunar Chronicles books (I would have gotten the books if that was the case). Arabic readers tend to be bilingual at least or multilingual if they read this series since they speak in Arabic and refer to the events of the books in Arabic (at least that is from what I see when this series is reviewed in Arabic by booktubers and there isn’t many reviewers who talk about it in Arabic). One way to get around this is paraphrasing summaries into Arabic and integrating the English version when needed such as having minor quotes.
The reasons why
My vision for the Arabic version of the wiki is to lessen the barrier for the enjoyment of this series. A step closer to make the books more accessible for Arabic readers as much as possible. Espically if someone is reading the series and may have difficulty understanding something and wants something to guide them in their own language. I guess the primary audience is someone looking to improve their English. I think the wiki would be a good thing since it is a language spoken by hundreds of millions of people.
Sorry to bother you but there are two pages in question that I would like you to delete the first one is not canon I believe a person added a wiki page on the wiki with their name instead of editing their profile to talk about themselves. Here is the link: https://lunarchronicles.wikia.com/wiki/Raju_saud
Also there is another page that I believe is not canon either and it's this one: https://lunarchronicles.wikia.com/wiki/Deaths_that_meant_a_lot. It's subjective in terms of the content I agree that Peony's death meant a lot but her name is the only one listed there. Three other characters can be added like Kai's parents and Dr. Dmitri Erland but that's about it for the page so I'm not sure whether you would consider it canon or not. If not delete it but if it is I will work on it to tidy it up.
Not a bother at all! Thanks for reporting them in!
The first page has been deleted, as for the second page, I'm thinking of repurposing it, but it does boarder as a feeble attempt. Some wikis I'm on has an article on "Death" that's about the end of life etc, not sure if it's worth doing it here, but there's also the option of "List of deaths" that summarizes how Category:Deceased happened. I think I'll go with that option, though I don't have time to expand it atm.
First off sorry about the multiple messages I thought I had reported them all only to find that there are more pages. Second I wanted to ask you a question, there are pages which, are bsacially The lunar chronicles dream cast type of pages should we get rid of those ones too? Because there are already threads discussing dream casts and I thought that it wasn't canonical to the series. So what's your decision on them?
Hi there! Once again, thank you so so much for catching those dubious pages and reporting them!
The spam-like pages have been deleted, with the Anon IPs blocked. The fan casting ones are turned into User blogs. =]
FYI, I don't know what kind of device you are using, but at least on desktops and laptops, one can always edit the message wall posts they've posted themselves, so you wouldn't have had to send multiple messages, you just need to edit the initial one to update your new findings. The spam-like pages reports are especially suitable to be grouped together, since your separate messages came closely together anyways. It's just for future reference. =D
Hi, I'm new to this wiki and I was just wondering if you could fix cinder's height to 5'8 because according to Marissa Meyer's website that's her correct height and for Kai's page can you please change the spelling mistake of "imperal" to "imperial" for the titles "His Imperial Highness" and "His Imperial Majesty". I would have done them myself but I can't for some reason. Sorry to bother you.
On the Scarlet Benoit page, in the first comment, there is something there that keeps killing my browser. I've asked a few friends to check it out too, and they've found the same thing. The page loads fine, then as soon as the comments load, their browsers crash too. I use Google Chrome, and so does one of the other people I've asked to look at it. Whatever the user has put in that comment, it makes it impossible to read comments or add any.
Oh hey! That's some great enthusiasm right there! Just the kind we need! Though to be honest, because the scale of this duology is still unknown, I think it's understandable that there's nothing much you could do for the said wiki (for now). That being said, I think what you can do for now is to reply to Thread:9551 and promote your wiki, I can highlight the thread for you; that ways, if people want to start discussing about the upcoming series, they can head over and in turns boosting the activities there. Hopefully the wiki will stay active once the first book is published, and then updated with actual info.
It's not that I'm shutting you down, but I've seen it in the past too many times that wikis getting all prepped up prior to the release, and no one ever came back to them for actual editing when the books become available. I am not saying this is going to happen, I'd just like to assure that I don't say "yes" before I make sure it doesn't, if that make any sense.
In case there's any confusion, think of it as a "tentative yes", hopefully by this December, the wiki could have at least 25 pages, perhaps? Good luck! =D And thank you so much for reaching out!
Revisiting this Wiki. . .so there hasn't been any word of OhMyStars for years? I recall there's a way to request the title of an admin, but I'm not sure how. What would you think to be the best way to approach this? Should we try to see if OhMyStars is still active, or not?
Nope, Ohmystars has been gone for over a year (I'm actually still pretty heartbroken about it lol).
Ummm... What do you mean by "request the title of an admin"? Like, someone wants to become an Admin? I got to say, if it's about editing, people don't need to become Admins to help out, they just need to actually do the helping out part. Do some good, and people will see the efforts made, then talks about becoming an Admin would be closer to reality, otherwise, it's just talk. You can even directly quote me if you are asking on behalf of someone else.
The Lunar Chronicles wiki was included in the now-retired Book wiki footer. A new fantasy literature footer has been created, and I was wondering if I could place it on the main page, since this site meets all the new requirements for inclusion.
Hi there Raylan! To be honest, I'm not sure if you are interested in reading my reply, but I feel like instead of letting it silently bug me in the back of my brain, I might as well get it out in the open. I'm not necessarily looking for a response, because I don't think at this point I would ever get what I hoped to hear.
This is the only one particular wiki out of the others I have Admin rights to, that I was approached by the Staff and politely asked about my opinion, but not before removing the supposedly "outdated footer" without our consent. I understand nothing is personal, but the fact that this wiki was the only one that got the treatment, to me it IS very personal and it screams favoritism.
I will reveal some of the wikis I failed at NOT feeling offended for and insulted by, with the lack of the same approach. w:c:septimusheap and w:c:inkheart. I think the criteria "Inactive community" is completely hypocritical. It says "Meaning there have been no or only a tiny amount of edits in the current week." What, are you really telling me you guys are going to monitor all wikis and update the templates EVERY WEEK? Because the word "current" means it's always changing!
The fact that the following wikis: w:c:firstlaw, w:c:mistborn, w:c:secretsnicholasflamel get to be approved, while the two I mentioned were declined, is obviously showing how double-standard the said criteria is. It's also overlooking all the wikis out there that might have been crazily active for a long period of time, but was just unfortunate to be less active when the bogus "updates" happened.
I see that regardless as to whether we want to participate or not, this wiki has already been included in the new template. I'm certain that this is a great honor and I do personally feel flattered, however, I cannot not support the said template when I do not think the wikis being decided to be featured is being judged fairly.
The entire reason I sorted out a great deal of wikis from the book community and presented in the original template, was in the hopes of letting people know there are wikis out there for those books/series, and possibly attract viewers and editors that way. By restricting it to wikis to only ones with 100+ pages, it is putting the smaller wikis in more disadvantage.
And then there's the argument of "Oh, they weren't getting any visitors that way anyways, so it wouldn't matter if their links were removed". Yes that's what people who cared about the book communities got, when only "Games", "Movies", and "TV" are chosen to be highlighted. I'm aware of it, so if I'm going to be getting that as a "reason" once again, consider me in the know, just that I don't agree with. I know that at the end of the day, I am just this one small person, and what I think doesn't necessarily matter, but since you asked, I'd like to imagine that I do get a say in this.
I won't ask for this wiki to be removed from the new template; by all means, if Staffs are removing the old template from all the wikis they come across to replace the new one (whether those wikis in question were aware of or agree with), at least there's still a way to be linked back to this wiki. But from our side, keeping the old one wouldn't be hurting the chances of any of the wikis getting to be clicked, since more wikis were on the old template.
That's my thoughts on the matter. I want to make it clear that I'm NOT angry at or upset because of you as a person, just that certain events leading up to this issue really isn't towards my preference. I do apologize if my phrasing of this post looks like I'm out to attack you. It's actually why I did not respond immediately, because the post probably would have come out even more awful. This is the best I could do.
I'm going to go ahead and remove the sites from their respective footers that have had the new versions removed from their main pages. Additionally, I'll marked them so they are not reviewed again to avoid any potential future issues.
There's many points in this post that I could personally respond to - but to be honest, much of what has been presented is already addressed in the footers master page. This includes what communities might receive a break from the requirements, how things are weighted, how often things are reviewed, and why the old footer was retired in the first place.
Hello Sam! I was wondering if I could help create subpages for the character pages, such as relationship pages named "xxx/Relationships". I feel like it would be easier to move all relationship-related content elsewhere to avoid clutter on the character page. Some of the relationships written up on the character pages take up quite a lot of space, after all.
What I'm thinking is to leave the "relationships" header on the main page but replace all the content (moved to the subpage) with a "main" template.
Hi there Valerie! Your proposal is a sound suggestion, however, personally, I do not think any of the current character articles warrants the method to be put into use. To make what I'm saying clearer, I am NOT opposing the option to ever be used, just that at the moment, I do not think it is necessary. If a relationship section does get really lengthy IN THE FUTURE, then we could relocate them to a subpage.
If you take a look at Special:LongPages, you'll see that none of the current articles are particularly long; the longest page isn't even 50k bytes. What I am saying may sound hypocritical, seeing that I myself have employed the same method on my home wiki with even shorter article lengths, and I'll explain to you the differences. What happened to my home wiki, was that the relationship section actually dominated the article; it was way detailer than the bio of the character, and completely losing what should have been the focal point of the page, hence the need of the removal of the section to properly get people focus on what those pages are for.
That is currently NOT what's happening here on this particular wiki. None of the relationship section is particularly long, which is a good sign to be honest. To me, all the articles are in dire need of updating, and I feel that by separating the relationship pages, people may get it into their heads to work on those, instead of contributing to the bios.
That is my opinion on the matter. Again, I am not forever shutting it down, WHEN this wiki actually reach the level of need, we could do it. Hopefully you are okay with that! =D
