Neils is a character first mentioned in Cress. He was introduced in northern Africa when he met Cress and Thorne.

In Cress, Cress and Thorne meet Neils at his company's encampment. He allows the two to stay there for a short time, and helps lead them to Kufra.
After learning of Cress's Lunar heritage, Neils and his wife kidnap Cress and take her to Farafrah, where she was then sold to Dmitri Erland.
